The Motorlight Concept

The creation of the Motorlight was born from the frustration that there was no flexibility in angle adjustment of uplighters. Previously, the only option for consumers was to buy a spotlight or a floodlight light bulb. Jake's design gives flexibility and the function to select angles of light anywhere between those extremes.

In this market of contempory lighting, aesthetics is normally the strongest driving force behind a product. There is less attention to the function of the light emitted. The Motorlight products combine two things; the serious function of angle adjustability and uplighting with a pure sculptural moving form that demonstrates how the product works functionally.

During prototype testing and running of the motors with the product, the movement of light inspired the secondary mood lighting function. This was discovered accidentally but has consequently broadened the creative possibilities of both products.

There is a motor inside the products which drives the mechanism. By incorporating the movement of the motor, the products allow for a precise selection of angles within a very smooth mechanical action.

Motorlight Wall

The Motorlight Wall can be appointed singularly or as a series. The user can choose a beam of between 10 and 120 degrees, providing a tight beam or wide wash of light to suit different illumination purposes and create varying environments. It is operated via a remote control which can power up to 30 lights simultaneously, allowing you to control the angle of light emitted and brightness on each luminaire, individually or as a group.
